Arts: Derek Walcoot Derek born on January 23, 1930. He won a Nobel prize for literature, and he is a poet. The most famous poem he wrote was an epic poem called Omeros, which he wrote it in 1990. It is a retelling of the story of the Odyssey. He also founded the Trinidad Theatre Workshop (1959), and Boston Playwrights Theatre (1981). Posted by Amy Jones

Science and Technology: George Astaphan Born in St Kitts on May 22nd 1946 Dr George Astaphan attended university in Canada where he studied where he received a BSc degree from Sir George Williams University (1967) and then graduated from University of Torontos faculty of medicine (1967). In 1988 George was accused of directing Stanozolol (a type of steroid in form of a tablet) to the sprinter Ben Johnson. This drug is banned from use in sporting competitions due to the side effects, it is thought to be cheating. George returned home (from Canada) to St Kitts, where he soon died in 2006 of a heart attack. Posted by Amira Alloo
